Fecking great international match last night. Well unless you're Romanian, and I must admit it is a pity that the likes of Norway or Bosnia will now qualify ahead of them, even if it means Mutu will get more rest. They play pretty football, prettier than Denmark by far.

Dubious penalty decision given to Denmark in the first half, Jon Dahl Tomasson nailed it in. Pretty drab first half, with neither side carving out clear cut chances. Rain was sleeting down, all very slippery and scary, but Denmark were solid defensively and were so abysmal going forward that the Romanian defence had little to do.

Second half came alive. Denmark continued to be abysmal going forward, but their defence couldn't keep the likes of Mutu quiet forever. Strong, excellent control from M from the corner, beat of challenges from 2 or 3 defenders to slot the ball past Sorenson.

Denmark started trying to go forward, and this inevitably exposed their defensive weaknesses. Romania took the lead with a perfect drive from just outside the box.

At some point Mutu (who was really putting himself about physically) fouled Gronk with a lunging tackle. The two engaged in some banter after that as Gronk wagged his finger at Mutu. Reminiscent of the other classic incident between Soxy and Petrescu. Petrescu charging towards goal shoulder-to-shoulder with Soxy, but Super Dan won that battle to score Romania's winning goal.

Denmark turned desperate, they pushed forward more to little effect and left more gaps at the back. Mutu had 2 or 3 chances to bury it when he went one on one with Sorenson, but Sorenson was having a massive game and saved each shot excellently. Other Romanian players had their try to, but all came up against the huge wall of Sorenson.

I thought Denmark never looked like they would score, but 4 minutes of injury time were played, and in the fifth Romania were dramatically made to rue their misses. Romanian defence totally lost concentration, Laursen tapped in past the goalkeeper from close range after Romania repeatedly failed to clear the ball. The Copenhagen stadium, which had been a cauldron of noise, went nuts. Heartbreak for the Romania, but they have a young and promising side, so they can wait two more years for their shot at the WC.
